The model of an appliance is usually remembered only when something breaks, a spare part is needed or an engineer calls. And that is exactly the moment the number turns out to be on the back panel, under the sink or behind a fitted cupboard.

The number is always in the worst possible place
The model and the serial number are usually hidden somewhere you would rather not reach: the back of the washing machine, inside the fridge, under a lid or on the oven frame.
And they are rarely thought about in advance — only when a spare part is needed, an engineer has arrived, or support is already waiting on the line.

What belongs on an appliance card
- The model and serial number — best saved as a photo of the rating plate, so nothing is mistyped
- The date and place of purchase — needed for a warranty claim or proof of purchase
- The warranty length — with the end date and a reminder ahead of it
- The consumables it takes — filters, bags, cartridges, cleaning products and anything else this machine needs
- A photo of the receipt — so the information survives even after the paper one has faded

The receipt is the first thing to disappear
A paper receipt is easy to lose, and thermal print fades so far that after a couple of years there may be nothing left to read.
Photograph the receipt and save it on the appliance card. It then sits next to the model, the serial number and the warranty, rather than among dozens of other receipts in a drawer.
If proof of purchase is ever needed, the digital copy is already to hand.
Questions people ask
Is a serial number really needed, or is the model enough?
The model tells a shop which part fits. The serial tells the manufacturer which production run yours is from, which matters for recalls and for some spare parts.
Can I attach the manual?
Attach a photo of the data plate and a link to the manual on the manufacturer site. That is usually more reliable than a PDF stored on a phone.
What if the rating plate is no longer readable?
The same number is usually in the manual, on the box, or in the order history of the shop you bought it from. Find it once and save it on the card while that source still exists — later there is nowhere left to recover it from.
